The Gaffer: 23/02/2026
Well, fancy that, eh? Another weekend of proper football madness across Blighty! If you had Chelsea on your accumulator, you're probably spitting feathers after Burnley nicked a point right at the death. Pedro put the Blues ahead, looking like a dead cert, but then Flemming pops up in the 90th minute! Talk about a sickener for the West London lot, and a proper smash and grab for the Clarets. Over in the Championship, it was all going off. Stoke City and Leicester City went at it like a pair of scrapping dogs, with Wilmot bagging two for the Potters only for the Foxes to claw it back twice, Winks then Wilmot again late on – talk about drama! Meanwhile, Aston Villa nearly got mugged by Leeds United, needing Abraham to save their bacon. Never a dull moment, is there? The beautiful game, eh? More like the barmy game!
Across the continent, the major leagues delivered their usual blend of predictable dominance and shocking upsets. In Germany, FC Bayern München secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, with Harry Kane continuing his prolific form by scoring two goals. However, the late strikes from Burkardt and Kalimuendo for Frankfurt suggest Bayern's defence may need further scrutiny despite the win. Perhaps the biggest headline emerged from Italy, where Juventus suffered a surprising 0-2 home defeat to Como. This result will undoubtedly raise questions regarding the Bianconeri's consistency this season. Elsewhere, Real Sociedad was involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Oviedo, a testament to the unpredictable nature of La Liga, while Olympique Marseille fell to a 2-0 defeat against Brest. FC Union Berlin also impressively edged out Bayer 04 Leverkusen 1-0.
