The Gaffer: 18/05/2026
Right, settle down, you lot! What a week across the pond, eh? The big one, Aston Villa absolutely mugged Liverpool, 4-2! Stevie G... I mean, Watkins, was on fire, bagging a brace. Poor old Dijk thought he was doing a job with two goals, but it was all for nought. Looks like the Reds left their boots in the changing room for that one, a proper battering! Over at Old Trafford, Manchester United just about scraped past Nottingham Forest, 3-2. Sounds like a right old ding-dong, that, never a dull moment with the Red Devils, is there? Meanwhile, Brentford and Crystal Palace decided to share the spoils with a 2-2 draw – can't complain about a few goals, can you? And spare a thought for Everton, who got a right good stuffing at home, 1-3, by Sunderland. Bet the Toffees faithful are proper gutted. Cheerio!
Turning our attention to the continent, it was a weekend of significant results. In Germany, FC Bayern München delivered a dominant performance, dispatching FC Köln 5-1, with Harry Kane once again proving his prolificacy with an impressive hat-trick. Bayer 04 Leverkusen were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamburger SV, a minor stumble, while Borussia Dortmund secured a comfortable 2-0 away victory against Werder Bremen. In Italy, the Derby della Capitale saw Roma emerge victorious over Lazio with a commanding 2-0 win, thanks to a brace from Mancini. A surprising result saw Juventus suffer a 2-0 home defeat to Fiorentina. AC Milan continued their solid form with a 2-1 away win against Genoa, but Inter could only manage a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona. Napoli secured a professional 3-0 victory against Pisa, rounding off a varied European slate.
