The Gaffer: 02/03/2026
Right, settle down, punters! What a weekend we've had in the UK, proper goal fests everywhere you looked. Kicking off, Burnley and Brentford put on a show, ending 3-4 – the keepers must've been on their holidays! Over at Anfield, Liverpool absolutely hammered West Ham 5-2; poor Hammers were left seeing stars. Everton nicked a late, late 3-2 win against Newcastle, proving you can never count the Toffees out. Meanwhile, Wolves put Aston Villa to the sword 2-0, with Gomes bagging a brace – fair play to the lad! Elsewhere, Bournemouth and Sunderland shared the spoils in a fairly drab 1-1, and Derby bossed Blackburn 3-1. A bit of a shocker saw Norwich clip Leicester's wings 2-0, while Watford stung Bristol City 2-1. Cracking stuff!
In European action, we saw some intriguing results that could prove significant for the league standings. Bundesliga leaders, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, faced a stern test at home against FSV Mainz 05. Despite taking an early lead, they were pegged back late in the game, ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw. This dropped point could be crucial in their pursuit of the title, highlighting the competitive nature of the German top flight. Elsewhere, in Italy, Como delivered a decisive performance against Lecce, securing a comfortable 3-1 victory. This result will undoubtedly boost their position in the league. In another Bundesliga fixture, FC Augsburg demonstrated strong defensive capabilities combined with efficient attacking play to defeat FC Köln 2-0, earning a vital clean sheet and three points. The outcomes underscore the varied challenges across Europe's footballing landscape this weekend.
